William Heirens, the supposed perpetrator in the Illinois Lipstick Murders of the 1940s, died in prison at the age of 83 on March 5, 2012. Heirens was convicted, although not necessarily proven 100% guilty, in the 1945-46 “Red Lipstick” slayings of WAVE Frances Brown, Josephine Ross and the despicable dismemberment of 6-year-old Suzanne Degnan. Why lipstick, you ask? Because the killer left messages behind at or near the scenes of each crime utilizing the candy-colored cosmetic.
It has been noted by some researchers of the Black Dahlia murder case that victim Elizabeth Short’s body was placed near the intersection of 39th St. and Degnan Blvd. in the Leimert Park section of L.A. The second 1947 SoCal killing spree victim, Jeanne French, had a the message “Fuck You B.D.” scrawled across her torso. But wait, the plot thickens. It was also written in red lipstick. Piling the coincidences higher. Whether this holds any significance to the death of Elizabeth Short is not certain, but it sure is a freaky coincidence in the inquiring mind of your very own Black Bird.
